MedCram helps out Cambodia with Alliance for International Medicine update

MedCram has partnered with AIM

As you may have read in our previous blog, MedCram has partnered with Alliance for International Medicine (AIM) to provide its ultrasound courses in training of medical personnel.  We had an update from Dr. Steve Rhondeau, CEO/Chief Medical Officer Alliance for International Medicine, who is heading up this project. He reports that they have had an unprecedented interest in the training and have been able to attract a world-class faculty to help with teaching.  AIM hosted a two day conference at Calmette and Khmer Soviet Friendship Hospitals in Phnom Penh with lectures in cardiac, lung, and abdominal ultrasound.

Conferences in Cambodia

There were over 100 emergency medicine, critical care and anesthesia Cambodian physicians enrolled, and the enrollment had to be capped due to room size and scanning workshop limitations. These physicians after the conferences went on to get bedside teaching in performing point-of-care ultrasound with patients for the next three days at the respective hospitals in the emergency departments, intensive care units and operating rooms. Each Cambodian physician was able to receive at least 4 hours of individual training.  They also received informal teaching on mechanical ventilation, sepsis protocols, shock states, and the use of medications for shock.

Dr. Akiva Leibowitz from Harvard Medical School/Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital teaches diagnostic ultrasound in the ICU at Khmer Soviet Friendship Hospital.

Future plans in Cambodia

AIM has also partnered with a medical virtual reality company and will implement a virtual reality assessment program to train and test for competency and proficiency in the near future. The group is planning to return 2-3 times a year to further expand their program and to include other teaching modules.

MedCram is excited and grateful for the wonderful results that are occurring in Cambodia. If anyone would like further information on AIM please go to their website https://www.allianceinmedicine.org.

We would like to thank all of our subscribers and users at MedCram and AIM for helping us to be able to partner on projects like this.
